Factory Flow Simulations – Overview & Benifits
Overview
- Factory Flow Simulation is the solution for
Discrete Event Simulation (DES) on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. With the possibility to simulate system variation. - By simulating industrial systems in the factory, factory flow simulation enables cost-efficient basis for decisions.
- It enables the user to design and validate current, evolving or future industrial systems. With a possibility to manage iterations and revisions in the modelling process.
- It’s a tool to optimise systems by simulating what-if scenarios in virtual twins with real data.
Benifits
- Tool to ensure fact-based decision making before capital investment.
- Reduce lead time and costs in logistics and production to gain competitive advantage.
- Assess future capacity to meet demand by determining throughput and identifying bottlenecks.
- Optimise asset utilisation by assessing multiple scenarios to identify the optimum solution.
- Assess inventory and logistical transports to minimize waste of inventory and improve value streams.
- Minimise cost and risk prior to capital investment by stakeholders.
- Allow sustainable and cost-efficient continuous improvements by introducing virtual twins which helps to identify issues in production systems.
Create flow simulations by defining the machine operation activities such as load or unload activities, transformation activities and quality check. Add time variation and rejection rate of activities to add further realism and validity to result.
Define conveyor systems. 3DExperience support several conveyor types, such as belt, slat, roller and power & free conveyors.
Develop the material flow between resources by defining transport time and pick & place positions of robots and human operators.
Analyze the KPI’s of interest such as, utilization, bottlenecks, inventory or travel distance of AGV or human.
Design multiple cell layouts and connect the material flows to simulate on machine cell, machine line or even factory level.
Kanban Management: Modeling & Simulation
Extend the support of complex Lean Manufacturing behaviors by simulating a Kanban system from warehouse to production work flows to maximize the throughput and minimize lead times.
- Provides all the tools to define a Kanban system:
- Kanban Card (Production or Withdrawal)
- Batch Building Box
- Kanban Card dispatch logic
- Leveling board
- Kit Card
Multiple Scenarios Experiment
Manage multiple discrete event simulation scenarios and perform what-if analyses to pin down the most efficient scenario using the Model, Scenario and Result tool as an experiment manager.
- Define multiple what-if scenarios to identify an optimal Discrete Event Simulation (DES).
- Manage scenario parameters (Inputs & Outputs), simulate and visualize the results after simulating multiple scenarios.
- Export the simulation results Analysis section, which will contain the detailed simulation output.
Support for Cranes and ASRS Systems
Extend logics for new material handling equipment such as Cranes and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) to cover internal logistics and warehouse simulation scenarios.
- Generate a Crane system on top of its
3D geometry. - ASRS are defined on pathway system. Mobile blocks (AGV-like) are created with a “Lift” and “Pusher” resources.
- Cranes & ASRS simulation will generate new statistics & KPIs: transferred items, state times (Empty, Loaded & Busy),traveled distance and utilization %.
Shift Planning & Workers Utilization
Assess the impact of calendar shifts on the production system by simulating the effects of weekends, holidays and various shift types and breaks.
- Define the number of shifts with start and end times.
- Worker and machine resources are applied to job consumption for each shift
- Define Breaks in shifts.
- Capture the time spent by the resources in a given state.
- Assess extra time spent by workers to complete ruining activity.
